Pierpont Commons is one of the three Unions, but is the only one located on North Campus. The building is named after Wilbur K. Pierpont, the Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, who guided growth on North Campus. The building opened in 1965 to accommodate the new community’s need for space and services. Since its opening, Pierpont Commons has experienced several renovations to adapt to and meet the needs of the North Campus community.
Here is a quick run-down of everything you need to know about the Michigan League, starting with its history.
The Michigan Union, already built and established in 1919, was considered an “all-inclusive” community for men. Women were only allowed in through the North entrance with a male escort. In 1921, the Women’s League of the University raised funds to build a center for women's social, cultural and recreational activities on campus: the Michigan League. On May 4, 1929, the League officially opened, offering a welcoming space to everyone.
Get the flavors of favorite local restaurants conveniently at the League! In case you haven’t heard, the League Underground hosts local restaurants every weekday from 11am - 2pm. That’s right, restaurant food you can pay for with Dining Dollars and Blue Bucks. A great stop between classes. Check out these awesome options and taste the local flavors. Come hangout with us!
