Equal Offense Pool Rules

Each player will break a standard rack of 15 balls and attempt to pocket all 15 (in no particular order) without missing.

Except where noted below, BCA general rules apply.

The Break

  • Break from behind the headstring.
  • After the break, the shooter takes ball in hand (even if he scratches).
  • Balls pocketed on the break count and stay pocketed, unless you scratch, in which case the balls are spotted. The shooter continues to shoot his first shot (even if he scratches).
  • After the break, a miss or foul concludes the inning, and the player commences with another rack.
  • If the shooter miscues and contacts the rack, he must shoot from there.

  • If he miscues and does not contact the rack, he is allowed to re-break with no penalty.

  • Impeding the cue ball on a miscue is a loss of turn, and the player gets 0 points for that round.

Each player will shoot 8 racks in this manner; when you miss a ball (or foul) in the eighth rack, you are finished. Your points from each rack are tallied up, and that's your individual score for the Equal Offense Pool event. A perfect score, then, would be 8x15=120.

Each player has his own table; you are not competing head-to-head with another player. You are instead trying to pocket as many balls as possible in a set number of racks.

There must be at least two referee/scorekeeper from opposing teams at the shooting team's table. All teams are invited and encouraged to score other schools' Equal Offense matches.

You must call your intended pocket. If you pocket a ball in the wrong pocket, your turn ends. If you pocket a ball legally and simultaneously pocket other balls, those points count. It is not necessary to call kisses or caroms; strictly call a designated ball in a designated pocket.

There are no substitutions in Equal Offense Pool.

Forfeit

If a player is late for his EO turn, he will forfeit one rack for every 15 minutes of tardiness.

Time Outs

  • Each player is entitled to two coaching time-outs, limited to one minute each.
  • Time-outs must be called by the player, not by anyone else on the team. One coach must be designated; you may not confer with the entire team.
  • There are no bathroom/personal breaks in Equal Offense Pool.

After all four players from all teams in the tournament have had their 8 innings, the team with the most points is the winner of the Equal Offense Pool competition.

Top finishers will be awarded points for their team, toward cumulative team standings:

    Equal Offense Pool Tie Breakers

    • In the event of a tie for team scores in the top 8, the tie-breaker will be:
      • Each player will shoot 3 racks, same format as above.
      • The team with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the higher spot and the points.
      • In the event of a tie after the playoff, each player will shoot one rack.
      • The team with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the higher spot and the points.
      • There are no time-outs during tie-breakers.
      • This will continue until the tie is broken.
    • In the event of a tie for individual scores in the top 4 (bonus contention), there are no team points or medals at stake, but there will be a playoff to determine bonus points:
      • Each of the tied players will shoot 3 racks, same format as above.
      • The player with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the bonus points.
      • In the event of a tie after the playoff, each player will shoot one rack.
      • The player with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the bonus points.
      • This will continue until the tie is broken.
      • No time-outs during tie breakers.
    • No bonus points are accumulated during the Equal Offense Pool Tie Breakers.
