Billiards & Games Room

Individuals can earn bonus points toward final team standings in a number of ways, listed below. Point values are still pending discussion and may be adjusted by democratic vote in the Captains' Meeting on Friday night. If you have a suggestion for new Bonus Points opportunities, give them to your captain for discussion at the meeting or discuss them ahead of time on the Facebook group!

Note: bonus points count toward total team standings, not individual event standings.

Tie Breakers / Anomalies

  • Equal Offense Pool Tie Breakers
    • In the event of a tie for team scores in the top 8, the tie-breaker will be:
      • Each player will shoot 3 racks, same format as above.
      • The team with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the higher spot and the points.
      • In the event of a tie after the playoff, each player will shoot one rack.
      • The team with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the higher spot and the points.
      • This will continue until the tie is broken.
    • In the event of a tie for individual scores in the top 4 (bonus contention), there are no team points or medals at stake, but there will be a playoff to determine bonus points:
      • Each of the tied players will shoot 3 racks, same format as above.
      • The player with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the bonus points.
      • In the event of a tie after the playoff, each player will shoot one rack.
      • The player with the higher score breaks the tie, thus earning the bonus points.
      • This will continue until the tie is broken.
    • No bonus points are accumulated during the Equal Offense Pool Tie Breakers.
  • 8-Ball Tie Breakers
    • If in a round of 8-ball the two teams split games (2-2) and the points total is a tie, that round is a wash.
    • If after all rounds of 8-ball the number of Wins is tied at 2-2, the total number of balls pocketed determines the winner. Note: it is possible that a team can win more games than its opponent but still lose the match. The determining factor in this unlikely (but possible) occurence is balls pocketed, not games won. Every ball counts!
    • If after all rounds of 8-ball the number of games won is tied, there will be a playoff.
      • All four teammates will play.
      • Lag for the break (separately on each table). Each team member plays a game (4 total).
    • If after this the games are split 2-2, there will be another playoff.
      • Each team picks its best player. Lag for the break; alternate breaks after that. Race to 2.
    • No bonus points are accumulated during the 8-Ball Tie Breakers.
  • 9-Ball Tie Breakers
    • If in a round of 9-ball the two teams have won an equal number of games, that round is a wash.
    • The winning team is the team that wins the most rounds.
    • If after all rounds of 9-ball the number of games won is tied, there will be a playoff.
      • All four teammates will play.
      • Lag for the break (separately on each table). Each team member plays a game (4 total).
    • If after this the games are split 2-2, there will be another playoff.
      • Each team picks its best player. Lag for the break; alternate breaks after that. Race to 3.
    • No bonus points are accumulated during the 9-Ball Tie Breakers.
  • All-Events Tie Breakers
    • Each team picks one player for 8-ball, one player for Equal Offense Pool, and one player for 9-ball.
    • 8-ball - Race to 2.
    • 9-ball - Race to 3.
    • All-Offense Straight Pool - 5 racks for high cumulative score.
    • The team that wins at least two of the above contests wins the UMTPC.
    • No bonus points are accumulated during the All-Events Tie Breaker.
    • If either team opts to leave the tournament site before the tournament finishes, they concede the title.
