We’re getting things started!
Move preparations lay groundwork for renovation
Students, visitors, and staff will be seeing some changes as preparations get underway for the Michigan Union Renovation. Here's what we have been doing in December:
The first moves have begun. Staff in Student Life Auxiliary Marketing have moved to BaitsI/Eaton House and University Unions Maintenance is relocating to the Michigan League Underground.
Much of the artwork in Michigan Union public spaces and meeting rooms have been removed and stored for safekeeping.
Tree trimming and tree removal will take place over season days in December. Several trees will be removed in order to prepare the site for renovation work; particularly window restoration and installation of updated mechanical systems. The timing of the work was selected to coincide with low pedestrian traffic in order to maximize safety, and prior to the spring nesting period. Much care has been taken to only remove trees that present obstacles or safety concerns during the renovation.
Unused items that are not of historical significance have been sent to University Property Disposition for placement in other areas or for sale. Some items of memorable value may be available to the public in the future. Please check back for details on those items in the new year.
