Michigan Union Board of Representatives

Two $1000 scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding student employees who work in the Michigan Union.

The Michigan Union Scholarship Program will provide two $1000 scholarships for Michigan Union student employees. Administered by the Michigan Union Board of Representatives, the program is intended to promote and honor academic excellence and to offer recognition for students with financial need who have demonstrated outstanding work and commitment to the Michigan Union as an employee.

Academic Excellence Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrolled a minimum of nine credit hours at the University of Michigan with undergraduate standing.
  • Continuing employment in the Michigan Union in any unit within University Unions and/or Student Life for the academic year in which the award is received.
  • Minimum length of employment: one complete term (fall, winter, spring/summer in the last year) plus the current term.
  • Minimum 3.3 GPA.

Requirements:

  • A completed Michigan Union Scholarship application.
  • An essay (1000 word maximum) on how your employment at the Michigan Union has impacted and/or enhanced your experience at the University of Michigan.
  • A letter of recommendation from your supervisor (non-student employee).
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member regarding your academic performance.
  • A transcript from Wolverine Access (may be unofficial).
  • An interview with award selection committee if contacted.

 

Frank Cianciola Work Excellence Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrolled a minimum of nine credit hours at the University of Michigan with undergraduate standing.
  • Continuing employment in the Michigan Union in any unit within the University Unions and/or Student Life for the academic year in which the award is received.
  • Minimum length of employment: one complete term (fall, winter, spring/summer in the last year) plus the current term.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

Requirements:

  • A completed Michigan Union Scholarship application.
  • An essay (1000 words maximum) on how your employment at the Michigan Union has impacted and/ or enhanced your experience at the University of Michigan.
  • A letter of recommendation from your supervisor (non-student employee).
  • A letter of recommendation from a Michigan Union peer regarding job performance.
  • A transcript from Wolverine Access (may be unofficial).
  • An interview with award selection committee if contacted.

General Information

  • Scholarships are awarded annually.
  • Students selected in prior years to receive a scholarship are not eligible to reapply.
  • One recipient will be selected for each scholarship. The Selection committee may decide to select two recipients for one award and not award the other scholarship.
  • Each scholarship is valued at $1,000 and will be deposited in the recipient’s student account and earmarked for tuition.
  • The selection committee may consist of MUBR members, University Unions staff and alumni.
  • Interviews for finalists will be held December 5, 2014.
