A project to repair the exterior masonry work on the Michigan Union is taking place this summer. Designed to preserve the exterior of the historic building, as well as showcase its beautiful architecture, the project will start end of May, and last until August. Please note: This is not the renovation project, which will begin in 2018.
Improvements will include: brick and stone repairs, reinforcing joints at the tower and localized areas across the building, and the installation of new flashings to prevent future masonry deterioration, The most significant work will be on the tower masonry. See Record article for more details.
The Union will remain open, as will most building entrances/exits, throughout the project. Please visit and enjoy our eateries, shops and services. We anticipate some noises throughout the project, but will provide you with regular updates on this website regarding the progress of the project and a schedule of impacted areas.
