Student leaders formed Building a Better Michigan (BBM), a student organization, to mobilize students around the need to renovate University Unions and Recreational Sports facilities.

Based on the recommendations and support of BBM, MUBR, ACRS, RHA, CSG, LSA Student Government, and 15 other school and college governments, the U-M Board of Regents approved a $65 per student fee per semester to fund facility renovations in Recreational Sports and University Unions facilities.
Michigan Union renovation planning launched with more than 75 focus groups and town hall meetings with students, student organizations, alumni, and campus departments. More than 500 wolverines responded to a survey. This study was recently recognized with a Certificate of Research Excellence from the Environmental Design Research Association.

$1.4 million exterior repair project completed on Michigan Union to address deteriorating brick, masonry, and tuckpointing.

Regents approved the Michigan Union Renovation project and appointment of architects.
