About the Michigan Union

The Michigan Union first opened its doors in 1919 and has been the center of campus life ever since. The Union offers a vast array of programs, services and facilities for the entire University community, as well as alumni and visitors. In the Union you will find an elegantly appointed study lounge, art lounge, a large computing center and a billiards and games room in which you can unwind. There are many attractive meeting rooms and excellent catering services operated through University Catering from the Michigan Union kitchen. You will also find a diverse sampling of eateries, ranging from Amer's coffeehouse, to the University Club Restaurant, several fast food places and a U-go's convenience store for grab and go. In the mall area of the Union you will find a U-M Credit Union, ATMs, a Barnes and Noble bookstore, STA Travel Agency, the Michigan Union Ticket Office and Computer Showcase and Repair.

The Union presents workshops, art exhibits and other activities and programs. Offices such as Arts and Programs, Student Activities and Leadership, Food Services, Event Services and the Graphics Shop provide opportunities for experiential learning, sometimes for credit and often for pay. The Union also houses many University and student organization offices.
