University Unions

Student Services

The University of Michigan is a big place, and it's not uncommon for new students to feel slightly overwhelmed. Fortunately, the Michigan Union houses a number of offices dedicated to helping students adjust and experience a sense of community, including counseling, student government, legal services and interpersonal relations.

  • Counseling & Psychological Services (Michigan Union)
Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) provides multicultural and multidisciplinary expert and caring therapeutic support at no charge for currently enrolled University of Michigan-Ann Arbor campus students. Staff of CAPS includes professional thereapists, psychiatric staff and interns from graduate programs in psychology and social work. Common reasons students go to CAPS include, but are not limited to:
    • depression
    • anxiety
    • academic difficulties
    • self-esteem issues
    • relationship issues
CAPS is also engaging the university community with "Do Something," a large scale college student mental health awareness campaign which highlights both QPR (a well-received, on-going, suicide prevention training program) and MiTalk (a University of Michigan student-focused, interactive mental health website). For moreinformation about these programs or about CAPS services, please visit both websites.
